The big story of this off-season for the Miami Marlins is that the team needs a new manager. The 2023 National League Manager of the Year Skip Schumaker is no longer with the team. It's definitely a controversial situation and we now are forced to watch Skip be pursued by other teams. We now know that he's no longer an option for at least one team.
Former Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker won't manage in Chicago.
The Chicago White Sox have been historically bad in 2024. In fact, owner Jerry Reinsdorf is now reportedly open to selling the team. Skip Schumaker was a candidate for Chicago's managerial job, but it appears that his candidacy is already over. I'm actually surprised as he is a former Manager of the Year. It certainly looked like he was a strong candidate for the position.
It's actually a good thing for Schumaker, as it would be a massive downgrade to go from the Miami Marlins to the Chicago White Sox. Not only are the White Sox playing second fiddle to the Chicago Cubs, but there are even some rumors now that they might be leaving Chicago. It might seem unbelievable, but franchises made moves before when they weren't particularly expected.
It hasn't been revealed why the White Sox will not be hiring Skip Schumaker for the 2025 season. It's actually a possibility that he pulled himself out of consideration. It's certainly likely as I don't see why anyone at this point would want to manage the White Sox.
The Miami Marlins and Cincinnati Reds are the only teams besides Chicago who had managerial openings. Cincinnati already filled their vacancy and he obviously left The Fish, so he isn't coming back. This left him with the Chicago job, which as we now know that he won't be getting. I'm still upset that he's gone. I would've preferred if he was still managing the Marlins in the 2025 season. It looks like he may in fact be taking the year off. I do wish Skip the best of luck in whatever he will do next in his career.
