Our very own Allen Settle recently wrote a great article about Miami Marlins prospect Deyvison De Los Santos. It's surprising how similar his profile is to New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso. This is very exciting as The Fish have already started making impactful call-ups. MLB.com is pushing for De Los Santos to be called up as well.
Deyvison De Los Santos could be another impactful call-up for the Marlins.
We all know that the Miami Marlins aren't going to the playoffs this season. At this point the goal of the season is to develop the young players and see who will be part of the team's next core. This can be fun if you're optimistic about the future and want to see young players develop. It can also be frustrating if you want to see the team win. While The Fish have been playing around .500 ball since the All-Star break, losing happens too often.
Deyvison De Los Santos is a very intriguing prospect. He's a first baseman/third baseman with elite raw power and Exit Velocity. I can only salivate about the possibility of his bat living up to the hype and him sharing the middle of the order with Jake Burger. He would almost certainly play first base, as third base is taken by Connor Norby. First base is currently taken by Jonah Bride, who has been very good, so it would be a shame to see him get benched.
Deyvison De Los Santos seems capable of being a 30 home run bat (or even more). The Fish need another bat like that. He's been dominating in both AA and AAA this season, so it certainly seems like the 21 year old is ready for a shot at the Major Leagues. I'm all for it, as long as Jonah Bride still gets playing time and that no one has to lose playing time due to the call-up. Otherwise, I'm very excited about the possibilities of a new elite power bat in the Marlins lineup.
The Miami Marlins should call up Deyvison De Los Santos before the end of the season.
