Miami Marlins make a game-changing promotion official
The Miami Marlins made a steal of a trade with the Baltimore Orioles, getting them to way overpay in the process. The trade brought The Fish 2B Connor Norby, who is now getting the call-up to the Major Leagues! This is part of a couple other moves done by the team going into today. This one however stands out as being potentially game-changing.
The Miami Marlins finally called up Connor Norby to the Major Leagues.
Connor Norby was a second round pick of the Baltimore Orioles back in 2021. Norby has actually already played in the Majors with the Baltimore Orioles this season. The 24 year old batted .188/.188/.406, with 2 home runs and 3 RBI in 9 games and 32 AB. It was obviously a small sample size, so it wasn't efficient at actually projecting what he can do over the course of a full season.
Norby has been very good in the Minor Leagues throughout his career. Back in 2022, he played at the A+, AA and AAA levels for Baltimore. He batted .279/.360/.526, with 29 home runs and 73 RBI in 122 games and 477 AB. This was pretty impressive and made it clear that Baltimore had another top prospect in their already deep system.
In 2023, Connor Norby played in AAA all season for Baltimore. He batted an even better .290/.359/.483, with 21 home runs and 92 RBI in 138 games and 565 AB. I should also point out his speed, as he stole 16 bases in 2022 and 10 in 2023. Norby split the 2024 Minor League season between Baltimore and the Miami Marlins. He batted a very impressive .293/.382/.496 in 94 games and 379 AB in AAA. He hit 17 home runs, drove in 60 RBI and added 13 stolen bases.
Based on what he did in the Minor Leagues, I have high hopes for Connor Norby during his current call-up. He looks like someone who can hit 20 home runs a season, steal 15 or so bases and provide a strong batting average. It may take some time for him to acclimate to the Major Leagues, but he certainly looks like a legit potential core piece for the Miami Marlins.
