Miami Marlins made an exciting call-up for Monday
The Miami Marlins rotation looks great going into next season. This is despite struggles from the likes of Max Meyer. With The Fish's farm system rapidly rising in the rankings, it's time to take a look at some of those prospects at the Major League level. This one may not technically be a prospect, but he is coming up from AAA Jacksonville for a start.
Adam Oller is getting called up by the Miami Marlins.
Who is Adam Oller? Oller is a 29 year old who was signed by the Miami Marlins to a Minor league contract back in July. Taking a look at his Major League track record, you may be surprised as to what exactly is so special about him. The 20'th round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2016, debuted at the Major League level with the Oakland Athletics in 2022.
Oller wasn't good in 2022. He pitched to a disastrous 6.30 ERA/6.50 FIP, with 5.6 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9 in 19 games (14 starts) and 74.1 innings pitched. It was definitely not the debut that they expected, but he would get another shot in 2023. Would he do better this time? The answer is a resounding no. This time he pitched to an even worse 10.07 ERA/7.22 FIP, with 5.9 K/9 and 5.5 BB/9, in 9 games (1 start) and 19.2 innings pitched.
The Major League results didn't go so well for Adam Oller, to be honest he hasn't been much better. This season splitting AAA between stints with the Miami Marlins and the Cleveland Guardians, he pitched to a 5.30 ERA, with 9.7 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9 in 18 games (9 starts) and 52.2 innings pitched.
As you can see, it's very hard to get excited about Oller starting for The Fish on Monday. That said, why not? You never know who actually delivers when you least expect it. Just take a look at the hidden gem that is Valente Bellozo. I don't expect Oller to be as good as him, but what if he's better than we expect?
