Will he stay or will he go? Is your head spinning yet? First we heard that CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is likely on his way out via trade. We then heard the exact opposite report, that he actually WON'T be traded after all. We now know that a particular contending team has had discussions about him. Let's dig in and find out what's going on here.
Miami Marlins CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. may or may not be on the move.
Going through all these reports and rumors, I come to the conclusion that the Miami Marlins are not shopping Jazz Chisholm Jr. That said, if Peter Bendix is blown away by the offer....it's happening. The question is will the return be enough? Another question is if extending him wouldn't be a better option?
My personal take on this is that The Fish should look into extending him first. No reports have come out specifying his contract expectations or whether he was even approached about an extension. I believe that seeing if he can truly get through a full healthy season should be the priority. If he does so, then an extension should be talked about in the off-season. Let's not forget, he's technically the face of the team.
What I said above makes it clear that my position is not to trade him. He should only be traded in the off-season, if an extension can't be worked out. What if he misses significant time with injury again? This is why I understand listening on trade offers for him now and seeing what is out there. It appears that the New York Yankees are interested.
The Bronx Bombers have a solid arm and could use Jazz in their top-heavy lineup. Aaron Judge is currently the team's CF, but could be moved to RF, with Juan Soto then moving to LF. He can also take over second base for the struggling Gleyber Torres. What would the Bronx Bombers give up? That should be the key point here. There is no way that the Miami Marlins should trade Jazz Chisholm Jr. for anything less than a premium return.
