We've been monitoring the Miami Marlins DH situation all off-season, analyzing whether re-signing him even made sense. We now know even more about the current situation, as it comes to outgoing free agent DH Jorge Soler. The slugger claimed that the team hasn't been in touch with him, but it's hard to believe that Peter Bendix isn't at least checking in.

The Miami Marlins might be out on Jorge Soler based on his contract demands.

Jorge Soler has quite an injury history and a history of streaky production. From 2014-2016, he batted .258/.328/.434, in 211 games and 682 AB. He continued to be disappointing with the Kansas City Royals, batting .228/.322/.403, in 96 games and 320 AB in 2017-2018. He finally broke out in 2019, batting .265/.354/.569, with 48 home runs and 117 RBI, in 162 games and 589 AB. This was his breakout, but he fell back down to earth in 2020, as he batted .228/.326/.443, with 8 home runs and 24 RBI, in 43 games and 149 AB.

Splitting 2021 between Kansas City and the Atlanta Braves, Jorge Soler batted .223/.316/.432 in 149 games and 516 AB. He won the World Series MVP with Atlanta that season. He was a complete disappointment with the Miami Marlins in 2022, as he batted .207/.295/.400, with 13 home runs and 34 RBI, in 72 games and 270 AB due to injury.

In 2023, Jorge Soler batted .250/.341/.512 with 36 home runs and 75 RBI, in 137 games and 504 AB. It was a solid platform season, but his history of inconsistence and injuries is highly alarming. I criticized Peter Bendix for not offering him a Qualifying Offer, as he opted out of his contract with the Miami Marlins.

Based on Soler's expectations of a 3 year contract, it is very likely that he would've rejected the QO. With Spring Training just around the corner, it's looking more and more likely that he may have to settle for a one year deal. The San Francisco Giants were rumored o be in on him, but seems that they're balking at the contract length that he's looking for. The Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals have been connected to him this off-season, but no further news have been released after that.
