Another Miami Marlins trade idea being floated around
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is becoming a popular trade topic
The Miami Marlins trading 2B Luis Arraez recently has opened up some floodgates. Trade ideas and suggestions involving star CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. continue to circulate. Another trade idea has Jazz going to the Kansas City Royals for a collection of prospects. Let's take a look at whether this trade idea is good or not for The Fish.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is not going to be traded by the Miami Marlins to Kansas City.
It seems that a lot of people assume that the Miami Marlins will be holding a fire sale this year. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a free agent after the 2026 season. As a result, it's assumed that he might be a trade candidate because of that and a lack of extension news with The Fish. There is however an issue with his injury history and inconsistency in his production.
This article is not about whether or not Jazz should be getting an extension from The Fish. This is about the trade that has been suggested. Kansas City's farm is in the bottom 10 of all Major League teams and the prospects suggested are well....not that highly rated. I'm talking about 3B Cayden Wallace, SP Frank Mozzicato and C Blake Mitchell.
Mitchell and Wallace are the top two prospects on the team. Mozzicato is the #4 prospect. Mitchell is actually not only their top prospect, but the #73 prospect in the Majors in general. I'm actually pretty interested in him, if Kansas City would actually make him available. Mozzicato projects to be a mid-rotation arm at best, so I'm not as high on him. Wallace has potential to be a solid third baseman in the Majors if everything comes together for him. He's currently batting .284/.368.441 in AA.
For reference, Blake Mitchell is currently batting .229/.395/.396 in Single A. Frank Mozzicato has a 1.88 ERA in 5 games and 24.0 innings pitched in A+ this season. It's actually a pretty strong return for Jazz Chisholm Jr. The question of course is if Jazz should even be traded or is available. I want to wait and see closer to the Trade Deadline. Jazz must stay healthy and productive, but then it makes sense to see what he wants in an extension and if it makes sense to commit to him long-term. I'm also not sure if Kansas City will even offer that.
