The Miami Marlins are in need of some more hitting help. It doesn't help to see the team lose relief pitchers to free agency at the same time, even though they may be replaceable. We now have some good news to report, as The Fish are finally adding free agent hitters to the roster. The team signed first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini to a Minor League deal.

Trey Mancini is the newest addition to the Miami Marlins offense for the 2024 season

The Miami Marlins have a first baseman in Josh Bell, but he can always be moved to DH, or Trey Mancini himself can be the team's new DH. I'm mentioning DH because that's one of the open positions on the team, with Jorge Soler hitting free agency and seemingly not being brought back. I don't see Mancini playing in the OF much. What can we expect from Mancini?

Trey Mancini played from 2016 to 2022 for the Baltimore Orioles. From 2016 to 2021, he batted .271/.333/.472, with 107 home runs and 309 RBI in 609 games and 2297 AB. His best season came in the "juiced ball" 2019 season, when he batted .291/.364/.535, with 35 home runs and 97 RBI, in 154 games and 602 AB.

Mancini was good for 20+ home runs from 2017 to 2021 in every season, with 2020 being the exception. He missed that season due to cancer. It was amazing to see him fully recover and play in the 2021 season. Things started to sadly go downhill for him starting with the 2022 season. He split that season between Baltimore and the Houston Astros. He batted .239/.319/.391, with 18 home runs and 63 RBI, in 143 games and 519 AB.

2023 was another down season for Trey Mancini. He played for the Chicago Cubs and batted .234/.299/336, with 4 home runs and 28 RBI, in 79 games and 235 AB. He was released in August and was signed by the Cincinnati Reds a few weeks later, but was released just a week later without a Major League call-up. Due to his 2 year/$14 million deal with Chicago, The Fish will only pay the league minimum for him.

I'm very hopeful that Trey Mancini can make the Major League roster with the Miami Marlins in 2024 and be a solid contributor.
