Expected returns of injured Miami Marlins players

The Miami Marlins pitching rotation is in shambles. Take your pick of a starting pitcher and they're likely on the IL. There's a patchwork of starters trying to hold down the fort in the meantime. The question remains however when will some of those pitchers return? We already know not to expect Sandy Alcantara or Eury Perez until next season, but what about Ryan Weathers, Jesus Luzardo, Braxton Garrett, Sixto Sanchez and Edward Cabrera?

When will injured Miami Marlins starting pitchers return to the team?

As we go down the list of the injured Miami Marlins rotation, let's start with breakout pitcher Ryan Weathers. The former top prospect has a 3.55 ERA/3.93 FIP, with 8.5 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 13 games and 71.0 innings pitched this season. Weathers is expected to return from his left index finger strain at some point after the All-Star Game. I'm guessing late July.

Edward Cabrera has been out with a right shoulder impingement and it appears that his timeline is unclear. MLB.com expects him to potentially be back on July 7 however. Cabrera has a horrible 7.17 ERA, with a much better 4.19 FIP, with his customary elite 13.1 K/9 rate and a below average 5.9 BB/9 in 5 games and 21.1 innings pitched.

Braxton Garrett has an alarming sounding left forearm flexor strain. We don't know how serious that is or when he's actually expected to return. He has a disappointing 5.35 ERA/3.81 FIP, with 8.3 K/9 and 1.0 BB/9 in 7 games and 37.0 innings pitched. It's obvious that health played a part in his struggles and the advanced metrics are still promising. It's unclear what his timeline is.

Jesus Luzardo has been disappointing this season as well. He has a 5.00 ERA/4.25 FIP, with 7.8 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 12 games and 66.2 innings pitched. The lumbar stress reaction causing his IL stint is expected to keep him out until as late as mid-August. This should end the chance of him being traded at the Trade Deadline.

Sixto Sanchez has a 6.06 ERA/4.73 FIP, with 4.3 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 14 games and 35.2 innings pitched. He will return from his right shoulder inflammation in July. July 11has been mentioned specifically, but it could be later than that. I hope that he won't be pitching as a starter anymore for the sake of his health.
