Marlins roster moves are attempting to patch up the injured rotation
The ENTIRE Miami Marlins rotation is currently on the injured list. The latest casualties have been Braxton Garrett and Jesus Luzardo. The latter has had multiple stints on the IL this season, making it even worse. This has been a very trying season for Fish fans, and the only thing that we can hope for is that all of these guys will be back healthy by next season.
This is an injury-filled season for the Miami Marlins rotation.
Raise your hand if you thought that the entire Miami Marlins rotation would be on the IL this season. Sandy Alcantara is done for the season and had been before it even began. Eury Perez won't be seen until next season as well. Both Braxton Garrett and Jesus Luzardo are some time away from coming back. Luzardo is currently on the 60-day IL, while Garrett is on the 15-day version. I'm hoping that they'll both be back this Summer, though there's some worry when it comes to Garrett.
Ryan Weathers broke out this season, but now is out for some time. It luckily doesn't seem to be too serious, as he has a left index finger strain and not a perhaps more serious injury. Still, that's an injury and all of these key pitchers are not currently available. This is precisely why The Fish have been busy making roster moves.
Yonny Chirinos has been decent enough this season as one of the replacements that were called up. Improving the team's current pitching staff, meant that lefty reliever Kent Emanuel is now going back down to the Minors. He hasn't impressed with his 6.75 ERA, an even worse 7.65 FIP and an underwhelming 5.8 K/9. He also has 2.9 BB/9 by the way.
Replacing Emanuel on the roster is righty starting pitcher Valente Bellozo. He has an impressive 9.9 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 in AA and AAA this season. That comes with an underwhelming 5.02 ERA however. We will see how he will do when he takes the mound today against the Kansas City Royals. Hopefully the 24 year old delivers.
