I wrote about this before, but what is the update now? With the season winding down, who is the frontrunner for the National League MVP award. With the Miami Marlins playing spoiler, there's not much to do for the team until the regular season ends. We can however still see what the division rivals and others do. So, who will win the NL MVP award? Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets? or Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers?

Miami Marlins division rivals' player are in an intense NL MVP race.

It's never fun to see that no Miami Marlins player is in the National League MVP running in a season. It's also not fun to see that The Fish are relegated to spoiling things for other teams, while not going to the playoffs themselves. It's frustrating. That said, it's intriguing to see if a division rival player actually wins a prestigious award.

Francisco Lindor is carrying the New York Mets into the Postseason. as of Thursday, he's batting .271/.342/.494, with 31 home runs and 86 RBI in 148 games and 601 AB. He's been worth 6.6 WAR and has 27 stolen bases. Of course, it's Shohei Ohtani who is getting all of the hype.

Shohei Ohtani is batting .303/.386/.642, with 53 home runs and 125 RBI in 155 games and 617 AB. He's been worth an amazing 8.6 WAR. t's a monster season that certainly deserves recognition. It's important to point out that Ohtani is strictly a designated hitter. No DH has ever won the National League MVP award. Ohtani is of course a special case however.

The MVP award is also for a player who helps his team the most. The Mets don't make the playoffs without Lindor. When I wrote the previous article, it looked like the Dodgers were running away from their division, making it seem that they could've done it even without Ohtani. They're now in a tight division race and not having Ohtani would've almost certainly cost them both the division and perhaps even the playoffs.

So who will win? At this point my pick is Shohei Ohtani. It's sad that the Miami Marlins couldn't have even been in on him in free agency last off-season.

Next. Bad news for a Marlins pitcher. Bad news for a Marlins pitcher. dark
