Marlins division rivals are ruining their contending season

The Miami Marlins had a good Trade Deadline, though one trade will probably be on our minds for a long time. This has been a lost season for The Fish, but the Philadelphia Phillies are contenders and just might be the favorites to win the NL Pennant. I don't understand why they're making bad trades when fixing the bullpen should be a priority for them. They made one that Sports Illustrated called a "heist" for the opposing team!

It looks like Philly doesn't want to win the World Series this season.

I can only imagine the reaction if the Miami Marlins did what Philly did in what looks to be a contending season. The trade that they made for Carlos Estevez with the Los Angeles Angels was plain ridiculous. Estevez has a career 4.29 ERA/4.05 FIP, and trading some of the team's top prospects for him is just mind-blowing. Forget that he's having a good season, he's just not really that good. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal said that this hurts Dave Dombrowski's reputation and makes him the top executive to deal with,

I'll get back to that, but why are the Phillies trading relief pitchers for prospects in a contending season? Why is Gregory Soto getting moved? He brought back Minor League RHP Seth Johnson and Minor League RHP Moises Chace. Neither really stands out, though Chace supposedly has interesting stuff. What I notice however is that Philly didn't add any top-tier relievers that they badly need. It shouldn't be a surprise however considering how Dombrowski wasted the good Detroit Tigers teams in the early 2010's.

Gregory Soto does have a disappointing 4.08 ERA/3.61 FIP, with 11.2 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 43 games and 35.1 innings pitched. The FIP and the strikeout rate are pretty intriguing. It's clearly a solid trade for the Baltimore Orioles. The control and the ERA are below average, but it still looks like the Phillies should've kept him around. It just looks like their bullpen got worse and nothing was really improved.

I'm not sad if the Philadelphia Phillies make mistakes, it only benefits the Miami Marlins, but it just looks bad.

Next. Marlins just robbed Baltimore. Marlins get a haul!!. dark
