Marlins have done something unexpected this week
I wrote about how the Miami Marlins can play spoiler this week. We saw exactly that happen last night. As the team's division rivals are sadly in more important situations, it's still fun to see The Fish do something of note before this disappointing season comes to an official end. The regular season part of it of course at least.
The Miami Marlins played spoiler successfully against Minnesota this week.
In last night's 8-6 win by the Miami Marlins over the Minnesota Twins, it was the same players who have been impressing us all week. The first base/designated hitter mix of Jake Burger and Jonah Bride did a great job. Both went 2-5, with Burger driving in two runs and Bride driving in one run. It was a good performance by the both of them.
The Minnesota Twins were in the mix for an American League Wild Card spot and needed to do good this week. They had three games at home against The Fish, which seemed very winnable at the time. They certainly seemed better off than some of their rivals. The Seattle Mariners had to visit the Houston Astros, while the Kansas City Royals were in a better spot playing the Washington Nationals, but had to play them on the road.
It was hilarious to see The Fish actually beat Minnesota in two of the three games. This unexpected series win has done perhaps irreparable damage to Minnesota. They now basically have to sweep the Baltimore Orioles. They'll be hosting them, but it's going to be quite a challenge for them. This almost certainly not the situation that they wanted to be in. They have no choice now...thanks to the Marlins.
After the Miami Marlins won two out of three games against Minnesota, the Twins are now three games out of the final American League Wild Card spot. This is really bad as they now have to be almost perfect going forward. Something that almost certainly won't happen realistically. The Fish basically eliminated Minnesota from playoff contention. I don't mean to offend Minnesota fans, but who would've expected this?!
