I started exploring some off-season options for the Miami Marlins as the team will hopefully improve the roster. There are some good early news for next season however. Going back to the former topic, I'm going to take an early look at a dream trade candidate based on the news. It's more of a fantasy scenario, as we don't know all of the details.

Could CJ Abrams be a target for the Miami Marlins?

The Miami Marlins have the SS position already filled with Xavier Edwards. The burgeoning star is likely to continue his breakout next season. This season, Edwards is batting .318/.385/.386 with a home run and 19 RBI in 63 games and 233 AB. He's been worth a very impressive 1.4 WAR for his performance so far this season. The only issue has been his poor defense, which has been rated at -0.5 dWAR.

So how does CJ Abrams fit into the team's plans for next season? Well, the Washington Nationals demoted the SS down to the Minor Leagues for a bizarre reason. He's being punished for playing in a casino all night. I'm not sure why that's such a big issue. As long as it didn't cause him to miss any games, I'm not sure why he should be punished for his personal life. That said, we don't know what actually happened and how far the partying actually went.

Could CJ Abrams be disgruntled enough that Washington could be looking to move him? Abrams has batted .246/.314/.433, with 20 home runs and 65 RBI in 138 games and 541 AB. He's been worth 3.4 WAR this season, including 0.9 dWAR. It's unclear if Washington would be willing to move him, or if they would want to trade him within the division.

What about Xavier Edwards? Well, due to his questionable defense he could be moved into the OF. Could he not move to LF or CF? I'm sure that the Miami Marlins could find a spot for him AND CJ Abrams. Of course realistically Washington won't trade him this off-season. That said, it's a situation worth monitoring for Peter Bendix.
