The Miami Marlins have a pretty good third baseman in Connor Norby. Along with some other potential break-outs, it can heavily improve The Fish's lineup for next season. A better lineup along with better pitching will hopefully allow the team to at least be in contention for the third Wild Card spot. It really isn't the hardest thing to do, as long as the team is reasonably competitive.
Yoan Moncada could be an option for the Miami Marlins next season.
Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada is expected to hit free agency after this season. There's a $25 million team option on him for next season, with a $5 million buyout. There's pretty much no chance that it will be picked up by the rebuilding team. This means that he will be on the free agent market and available to sign for every team.
Should the Miami Marlins be one of the teams trying to sign him? If the amount is right then why not? DH might be a possibility and let's not forget that Norby can also play second base. Let's get back to Moncada though. He played for the Boston Red Sox in 2016, but has played for Chicago from 2017 to 2024. As of Thursday, his career batting line is .254/..331/.424. He's also going to be 30 years old next season.
So far this season, Moncada is batting .275/.356/.400 in 12 games and 40 AB. His best season had been back in 2019. He batted a very impressive .315/.367/.548, with 25 home runs and 79 RBI in 132 games and 511 AB. Will he ever repeat that performance? Who knows at this point. He was worth 5.2 WAR that season. He also had a 93.6 Exit Velocity that season. This season it's a still solid 90.2.
Yoan Moncada should not be expensive and the Miami Marlins should have no issue signing him. Of course there has to be room for him and it depends on the other teams in the mix, as well his own plans on where he wants to play. He could make sense for the team that said.
