Peter Bendix has rebuilt the Miami Marlins at the Trade Deadline. He got an amazing haul after an amazing haul for players who didn't seem that valuable. One player that wasn't moved was Jake Burger, the slugger who is controlled through the 2028 season. He's been red hot since the All-Star break...It's time to take a look at just how great he's been.
Jake Burger is a core foundational player for the Miami Marlins.
Jake Burger has been a revelation since the Miami Marlins acquired him from the Chicago White Sox last season. At the time, he batted .214/.279/.527, with 25 home runs and 52 RBI in 88 games and 294 AB. Upon his trade to The Fish, he turned into a different player. He batted .303/.355/.505, with 9 home runs and 28 RBI in 53 games and 198 AB. It was elite production and played a big part in the team making the playoffs.
Burger started this season off slow, but wow. Just look at this. He is leading the Major Leagues with home runs in August with 9! He is leading the Majors in home runs since the All-Star Break with 14! He's also leading the Majors in home runs since July with 17! This is a power barrage that is almost unimaginable. He is easily the best power hitter in the National League, and the only one stopping him from being the absolute best in the Majors is Aaron Judge.
Jake Burger has strong overall numbers for 2024 as well. He's currently batting .251/.303/.477, with 24 home runs and 55 RBI in 101 games and 390 AB. It's pretty safe to bet that he'll hit over 30 home runs again this season. Who knows he may even be a 4 home run bat one of these seasons. He's really that good.
I don't expect Jake Burger to be traded as he's under control through the 2028 season. He's also already 28 years old, so will be 32 by then. It seems that the Miami Marlins will have his best years under arbitration control, which is amazing. Now feels like a good time to eat a burger in his honor.
