The Miami Marlins made a flurry of trades at the Trade Deadline. Peter Bendix just kept on making trades, and when the "dust cleared", The Fish's moves were praised by insiders and the farm system was clearly on the way up. MLB.com released a list of farm system rankings and it gives us a good look at the state of The Fish's farm at this time.
How does the Miami Marlins farm system rank now?
The Miami Marlins farm system has once been an elite one. It wasn't that long ago when it was in the top 5 in fact. Those were the days when we dreamed of sustained success and a pipeline of amazing talent. Sadly, the farm ended up crashing relatively quickly, which is why Peter Bendix was brought on board. He was brought here to improve the farm and build a sustainable winning team, similar to how the Tampa Bay Rays do things.
The aforementioned Tampa Bay Rays by the way have the top ranked farm system on the MLB.com list. That's right, they have the best farm system in the Major Leagues. The Fish have some top prospects however, such as RHP Noble Meyer, LHP Thomas White and 2B Connor Norby. I'm very excited about the farm and expect to see these players help the team down the line.
So how does MLB.com rank the Marlins farm system now? Well, for context it's been in a free-fall. It was ranked #16 mid-season in 2022; then dropped down to #23 in the 2023 pre-season; then to #24 in the 2023 mid-season and finally bottomed out at an abysmal #29 in the 2024 pre-season.
This is why it's such great news to know that the Miami Marlins farm system has now moved up to #15! MLB.com also points out that The Fish acquired the second-most ranked prospects at the Trade Deadline, with 11. MLB.com praises the team on the jump in the rankings and I couldn't be happier. This is a great start and I fully expect Bendix to make the farm a top 10 one in the near future with great drafts.
