The Miami Marlins made some roster moves today.
The Miami Marlins placed right-handed relief pitcher JT Chargois on the 15-day injured list due to a right oblique strain. This is alarming as oblique strains tend to take players out of action for a while. Chargois debuted in 2016 with the Minnesota Twins and produced a 4.70 ERA/3.36 FIP with 6.7 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9 in 25 games and 23.0 innings pitched. The walks and ERA were clearly an issue at this point. He was back in the Majors in 2018 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and produced a 3.34 ERA/3.87 FIP with 11.1 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 39 games and 32.1 innings pitched.
Chargois continued on with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019 and had a 6.33 ERA/4.01 FIP with 11.8 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 in 21 games and 21.1 innings pitched. Chargois missed the 2020 season but was back to split 2021 between the Seattle Mariners and the Tampa Bay Rays. He produced a 2.52 ERA/3.86 FIP with 8.9 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 56 games and 53.2 innings pitched. He was with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022, and delivered a 2.42 ERA/4.28 FIP with 6.9 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 21 games and 22.1 innings pitched.
So far in 2023, JT Chargois has produced a 0.00 ERA/1.55 FIP with 8.3 K/9 and 0.0 BB/9 in 5 games and 4.1 innings pitched. Chargois has been one of the best relievers on the team so far this season, so it's frustrating to see him miss any significant time. I'm worried that he might miss more than the 15 days that he's currently supposed to miss. Right-handed Minor Leaguer George Soriano has a 3.28 ERA with 9.2 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 throughout his Minor League career. He has a 0.00 ERA in a game and 1.1 innings pitched for AAA Jacksonville so far.
