Miami Marlins make a roster move with some potential
The Miami Marlins are starting to look good for next season. The pitching looks great and even the hitting is starting to take an interesting shape. Now we know that another intriguing bat could be joining the mix. While he may not be his cousin Rafael Devers, Jose Devers might be able to surprise us this season...
SS Jose Devers has been called up by the Miami Marlins.
First off some bad news, utility player Vidal Brujan has a sprained AC joint in his right shoulder. The Miami Marlins placed him on the 10-day IL as a result. He's been batting .224/.307/.322, with 2 home runs and 16 RBI this season. He did all of this in 98 games and 245 AB. He hasn't been a key player on the team to say the least. He has however been worth 0.6 WAR and did provide a very good 0.7 dWAR in the process.
Vidal Brujan may not be an offensive star, but he's a defensive wizard who will certainly be missed by the team. He can play in both the OF and IF, making him very versatile, which is why he does actually have value to the team. The aforementioned Jose Devers will be taking his place on the Major League roster.
Jose Devers hasn't played in the Major Leagues since the 2021 season. That season, he batted just .244/.304/.317, with 0 home runs and 5 RBI in 21 games and 41 AB. He was worth -0.2 WAR that season. That was hardly a memorable debut, but he was also just 21 years old. He's older now at 24 years old and with more Minor League experience under his belt, he may be much better in his second run in the Major Leagues.
In AA and AAA this season for the Miami Marlins, Jose Devers has batted .244/.305/.371, with 3 home runs and 20 RBI in 64 games and 221 AB. That's not very promising, but who know show he'll do on the Major League team. He's really only being called up as an injury replacement for a backup player.
