What a season it's been already for the Miami Marlins. The playoffs are now just a distant memory, and it's time to start thinking about who is responsible for this mess. For now, we just have to look at more of the news around the team. There are news on injuries and recoveries. Are you ready to dig in?
Some Miami Marlins players are coming back and others are going on the IL.
Let's start with RP A.J. Puk who made his return last night and pitched 0.1 innings. He's luckily not a starting pitcher anymore. That will hopefully be enough to make him useful to the team. The bullpen has been a disaster for The Fish so far this season. Maybe if last season's closer gets his stuff on point, he coul improve it.
Going on the IL is struggling SS Tim Anderson. Anderson has been pretty bad this season, batting .197/.234/.221 with no home runs and 6 RBI, in 36 games and 122 AB. He's been worth -0.6 WAR for this terrible performance. It's not even clear if he'll actually get better. He does have a .286 BABIP with a career .346 mark, but it's doubtful that he'll really improve that much. My guess is he will end up being a miss of a signing. He's currently on the 15-day IL with lower back soreness.
SS Tristan Gray is up from the Minors to replace Anderson on the Major League roster. Tristan Gray batted .227/.301/.523 in the Minor Leagues (AAA) this season. I don't expect much from the 28 year old right-handed hitter. I'm still happy for him to get a shot at the Majors. Going back down is 25 year old right-handed relief pitcher George Soriano.
George Soriano had a terrible 9.26 ERA/6.74 FIP, with 9.3 K/9 and 5.4 BB/9, in 10 games and 11.2 innings pitched. He's been worth an atrocious -0.4 WAR and hopefully won't be back up this season. Sadly, I expect him back at some point to provide some more subpar production. I hope that he'll prove me wrong and improve his control and well everything else.
