Miami Marlins notes: house cleaning, DSG made a big decision
Skip Schumaker is no longer the Miami Marlins manager. This has been the big news this week, as the season has been a disappointment. At least the season ended on a positive note. We now have even more news on the team. The team is also apparently "cleaning house" and restructuring a team that lost 100 games in the 2024 season.
Changes are already defining the Miami Marlins season.
Let's start with the Diamond Sports Group situation. The company that owns Bally Sports Networks that is going through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process, made some decisions. It now officially cut ties with the Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels. They plan to only broadcast Atlanta Braves next season. Time will tell what it actually means for The Fish? Who will broadcast the team's games and will this affect the payroll next season?
Peter Bendix will be one of the few personnel who will still be in the Miami Marlins organization next season. The team is undergoing a massive overhaul. The ENTIRE coaching staff has been let go! Bench coach Luis Urueta and first base/outfield coach Jon Jay apparently could still be brought back however.
Pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. is very highly rated around the Majors, so it's surprising to see him let go. The others include assistant hitting coach Bill Mueller, assistant hitting coach Jason Hart, Third Base coach Griffin Benedict, infield coach Jody Reed, bullpen coach Wellington Cepeda, bullpen coordinator Rob Flippo and field coordinator Rod Barajas.
It's definitely a big surprise to have something like this go down. Is it the right call for Peter Bendix to overhaul the roster this way? Time will certainly give us an answer to that burning question. As of now we just have to wait and see. I just don't understand letting go of Stottlemyre, but I'm hoping that the Miami Marlins will somehow end up being better after all of these monumental changes are over. Hope is what we have at the moment that Bendix knows what he's doing.
