The Miami Marlins are finally on a winning run, and there might be at least an outside chance to save the season. Things may even get better, with some hitters underperforming. The big question is however a potential sell-off at the Trade Deadline. This brings us to starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo and his future with the team.

What should the Miami Marlins do with Jesus Luzardo?

Obviously if the Miami Marlins turn things around, there's no question that Jesus Luzardo should be kept around. After a terrible start to the season, he's now turned things around. Luzardo's last start was phenomenal. At one point, he actually retired 17 Milwaukee Brewers batters in an 8 inning outing, as The Fish beat Milwaukee 1-0.

Luzardo actually spoke about the start: "Like I've said, the strikeouts for me, it's not that important, blowing people away. It's more of getting deeper in the game, giving our team a chance to compete and saving the bullpen at the end of the day. I know that our guys are getting worn out early in the year, and it's something that I kind of take a lot of pride in trying to save them.”

Luzardo has a 0.92 ERA in his three starts since coming back off of the injured list. Now let's look at the big picture...he's a free agent after the 2026 season, which means that after this season he's only under contract for two more. This might not normally be an issue, but just look at how the rotation looks going forward...

Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez are both coming back next season. Contrary to some fan opinions, Sandy isn't getting traded right after coming back from TJS. Max Meyer is definitely a long-term building block. There's also the likes of Braxton Garrett and Edward Cabrera with upside. I didn't even mention Roddery Munoz, who has potential as well.

If The Fish aren't going to make the playoffs, with all of the above pitchers under more team control, it might make sense to reload the farm and improve hitting by trading Jesus Luzardo.
