It appears that the Miami Marlins may be showing off a certain player's positional versatility. I'm of course talking about CF Jazz Chisholm Jr., who The Fish will supposedly not trade. It's really hard to tell at this point if Peter Bendix is posturing, or if he really has no intention on trading him. Once again we have contradictory reports on the matter. The question remains...will Jazz actually be traded?
Miami Marlins CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. is receiving interest from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Miami Marlins and the Pittsburgh Pirates have had talks about Jazz. It has been said that those talks were "exploratory" and that there are other more interested teams in the picture. Those teams? The New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals and the Seattle Mariners have all been linked to Jazz in recent weeks. It remains to be seen which of these have more interest in Jazz than Pittsburgh.
It makes sense for the Pirates to want Jazz. They don't currently have a good lineup and CF is actually a major problem area for the team. They could use some help at second base as well, which means that Jazz's versatility is quite useful for them. The obvious question is the return, Pittsburgh will obviously need to trade some prospects to The Fish. Those prospects would ideally be hitters, as that is The Fish's major area of need at the moment.
I'm a little unsure why Pittsburgh would have interest in him, as he's a free agent after the 2026 season. Pittsburgh seems to have less money than The Fish, so I don't really see them extending him. I also don't see them being that close to contention to be one or two bats away. Of course, I don't really care about Pittsburgh's situation, if they feel they're close to contention and want to give The Fish good prospects, I'm definitely all for it.
The next few weeks will solve the issue of whether or not the Miami Marlins will actually trade Jazz Chisholm Jr. I hope that it'll be worth it if Peter Bendix does. A better option would be an extension.
