The draft came and went for the Miami Marlins, improving the farm system naturally. It was however followed by the Trade Deadline, that naturally depleted the farm system. How does the farm system look now? Just as importantly however how many and who is on the MLB top 100 prospects list? Did any prospects rise up the rankings as expected?
Did any Miami Marlins players make it on the MLB top 100 prospects list?
Here's how the other teams did with the number of prospects on the list... I put the number of top 100 prospects followed by the team and their rankings. This can put the list in perspective for us.
6 - Baltimore Orioles (1, 14, 25, 28, 50, 55); Pittsburgh Pirates (3, 23, 42, 75, 90, 99)
5 - Milwaukee Brewers (2, 22, 34, 38, 56); Chicago Cubs (12, 30, 69, 77, 92); Los Angeles Dodgers (46, 47, 61, 70, 85); New York Mets (40, 57, 84, 93, 96); Cincinnati Reds (24, 44, 62, 73, 74); Colorado Rockies (21, 54, 64, 89, 100)
4 - Cleveland Guardians (52, 63, 86, 91); San Diego Padres (5, 9, 65, 68); Philadelphia Phillies (29, 49, 83, 97); Texas Rangers (8, 13, 67, 98); Detroit Tigers (15, 26, 59, 72); Boston Red Sox (11, 37, 78, 88)
3 - New York Yankees (79, 80, 81); Oakland Athletics (48, 82, 95); Arizona Diamondbacks (10, 35, 51); San Francisco Giants (20, 27, 76); Seattle Mariners (39, 41, 71); Washington Nationals (4, 7, 43); Tampa Bay Rays (6, 19, 36); Minnesota Twins (16, 18, 53); Chicago White Sox (17, 66, 87)
2 - Toronto Blue Jays (33, 94); St. Louis Cardinals (32, 45)
1 - Miami Marlins (60); Los Angeles Angels (33); Atlanta Braves (58: RHP AJ Smith-Shawver)
0 - Houston Astros; Kansas City Royals
The Atlanta Braves don't have a good farm anymore, with only one prospect on the top 100: AJ Smith-Shawver, who is expected to debut this season. The Milwaukee Brewers have the #2 prospect OF Jackson Chourio, who seems to be a close to 5 tools future potential star. The New York Mets alarmingly for The Fish have 5 in the top 100. Luisangel Acuna leads their list, but is said to not be a superstar going forward. They also had Ronny Mauricio drop all the way down to #93.
Washington has OF's Dylan Crews and James Wood potentially debuting next season, and they could be stars. San Diego's top prospects are years away, while Baltimore's are almost supposed to debut next season. This brings us to the Miami Marlins. Sadly, The Fish only have Noble Meyer on the list.
This list is a bit disappointing, but hopefully more Miami Marlins players get on the list in the near future.
