Should the Miami Marlins pick up a couple Angels?!

The Miami Marlins just lost to the Tampa Bay Rays, putting The Fish at .500. With the playoffs getting out of reach, The Fish need all of the help that the team can get. Improving the bullpen is one step, but how about another starting pitcher and another bat. A bat that could be better than a former MVP. I'm talking about recently waived Los Angeles Angels players.

The Miami Marlins might want to pick up a couple Los Angeles Angels players.

Could another starting pitcher help the Miami Marlins? It just so happens that the Los Angeles Angels are finally giving up on a lame attempt at contending. The worst run franchise in the Majors made an ill-fated attempt to make the playoffs, and are now waiving basically everyone that they acquired to do so. Topping that list is starting pitcher Lucas Giolito.

Giolito had a great run with the Chicago White Sox from 2019 to 2021. During that run, he had a 3.47 ERA/3.54 FIP with 11.1 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 72 games and 427.2 innings pitched. He didn't do as great since then, producing a 4.68 ERA/4.49 FIP with 9.8 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 57 games and 315.1 innings pitched. He delivered those numbers with Chicago and the Los Angeles Angels. He currently has a 6.89 ERA/6.82 FIP with 9.4 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9 in 6 games and 32.2 innings pitched.

Could he do better with The Fish? He certainly has more upside than having another bullpen game. The other Los Angeles Angels player that could help is RF Hunter Renfroe. Renfroe is batting .239/.300/.425, with 18 home runs and 52 RBI in 124 games and 452 AB. In the last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays, he batted .257/.315/.497 with 60 home runs and 168 RBI in 269 games and 995 AB. He's a legitimate threat to hit 30 home runs.

Hunter Renfroe could give the Miami Marlins another power hitter and Lucas Giolito is an upgrade for the rotation. Both are free agents after the season and could give The Fish a much-needed boost. They can be picked up for "free" (without giving the Angels anything in return).
