Surprising pitching target for the Miami Marlins can make a difference

The Fish may have an interesting possibility available

How many more starts do we need to see from Trevor Rogers and Sixto Sanchez? It's clear that neither one should be getting those opportunities anymore. Sixto may be playing in his final season for the Miami Marlins and at this point, should really only focus on relief work. He can't even handle long outings. Actually....I'll get to that. In this article, I'll be making an argument why The Fish should make an odd trade at first glance.

The Miami Marlins should make a trade with the Chicago Cubs for Kyle Hendricks.

As I said earlier, Sixto Sanchez belongs in the bullpen at this point. He doesn't have any trade value and he's hurting the team too much in the rotation, while overtaxing the already struggling bullpen. Trevor Rogers is sitting on a 6.11 ERA/4.35 FIP, with 8.1 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9. His fastball velocity is down to 92.3 mph and I don't see it going up anytime soon. He can stay in the rotation based on the FIP, but long-term he's probably on his way out.

Now, why would the Miami Marlins target Kyle Hendricks of the Chicago Cubs for the rotation? He was just demoted to the bullpen and has an unsightly 10.47 ERA/6.72 FIP, with 7.2 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 8 games and 32.2 innings pitched. I see this as flukey however. He's sitting on an unlucky and unsustainable .385 BABIP against. He had a 3.74 ERA/3.81 FIP in 24 games and 137.0 innings pitched last season.

I fully expect Kyle Hendricks o bounce back, so why should The Fish target a seemingly worse pitcher than Rogers and Sixto? Sixto taxes the bullpen because he can't pitch full games. Rogers is injury-prone and may be done as a starting pitcher. Hendricks would allow The Fish to eat some innings, with the chance of flipping him at the Trade Deadline. He also has the track record and durability.

Kyle Hendricks will also be cheap to acquire, with the Cubs paying most if not all of his $16.5 million salary. This is something that the Miami Marlins might want to consider.
