The Miami Marlins missed out on Cody Bellinger, and just played his new team in a home series. Would The Fish be able to keep the momentum from a big recent win? As it turned out...a big resounding YES! The Fish started things off with a 3-2 win on Friday; won 7-6 on Saturday with a 5-run first inning; and finally 4-3 on Sunday. It was a sweep! The first sweep of the season!
The Miami Marlins swept the Chicago Cubs.
CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a big week and it started with a 2-4 performance in the series opener. Closer A.J. Puk was the hero again, getting the much-needed save in a close game. 3B Jean Segura was the offensive hero, going 2-4 with 2 RBI. This was a close game, but a well-deserved win for The Fish.
The second game of the series saw an interesting performance from starting pitcher Edward Cabrera. Cabrera went for 5 innings here, and gave up 2 runs. The interesting part was him giving up a way too high 5 walks, but then also getting a very impressive 12 strikeouts. Once Cabrera gets his control in order, he's going to be a legitimate ace in the Major Leagues. The strikeout stuff is as elite as it gets.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the hero of the game, going 3-4 with 2 RBI. Jazz had a big week in general, batting .333 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI. After a slow start, Jazz is finally back on track and may be on his way to a big season. Jazz can be very streaky, but once he gets going he's a legit MVP candidate. OF Jesus Sanchez went 2-4 with 3 RBI as he's been quietly heating up himself. At this point, the Miami Marlins won the series, but there was still one more game to play...
The Miami Marlins finished off the sweep, with A.J. Puk getting the same yet again. 2B Luis Arraez went 1-3 with 2 RBI, in the best hitting performance of the day for The Fish. It was another close game, but the result was the right one for The Fish. Let's hope that the Miami Marlins can bring this momentum into an upcoming series against the division leading Atlanta Braves.
