It's been a busy day for the Miami Marlins. You may have already read about one injured Fish slugger, but now there's unfortunately another one. At least it wasn't one of the team's potential All-Stars. Besides the unfortunate injury, the bullpen has also been reshuffled again. Let's take a look at what happened with The Fish's roster today.

The Miami Marlins had a busy day with transactions.

Righty relief pitcher Johan Quezada has been designated for assignment. Quezada had a pretty poor career with the Miami Marlins so far. The 28 year old debuted in 2020 and produced a 9.00 ERA/7.19 FIP with 6.0 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 3 games and 3.0 innings pitched. It was brief and completely uneventful as you can see. Things didn't get much better this season, as he delivered a 40.50 ERA/25.87 FIP with 0.0 K/9 and 67.5 BB/9 in a game and 0.2 innings pitched. These are insane numbers and short sample sizes, but just not much positive to go on either.

Taking Quezada's place in The Fish's bullpen is the returning Devin Smeltzer. Smeltzer has a career 4.20 ERA/5.06 FIP with 6.2 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in his 5 year career so far. He's pitching for a new team this year, as he spent his career with the Minnesota Twins prior to joining The Fish. He has a disappointing 6.75 ERA/7.87 FIP, with 6.0 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 5 games and 12.0 innings pitched so far this season.

In injury news, the Miami Marlins are losing oft-injured 1B Garrett Cooper to an inner ear infection. He's been placed on the injured list. Cooper has been batting .272/.306/.413 with 3 home runs and 13 RBI this season. It's definitely going to be tough to lose him for any amount of time. Yuli Gurriel will fill in for him in the meantime. He's hitting .302/.351/.453 so far this season. Taking Cooper's spot on the roster is the called up OF Peyton Burdick. Burdick batted .207/.284/.380 in 32 games and 92 AB last season. He added 4 home runs and 11 RBI to his production.
