The Miami Marlins fanbase isn't happy with principal owner Bruce Sherman. I've been saying that transparency with the fanbase was key to rebuilding the trust between both sides. It's really not a complicated thing to be honest. In the meantime, Marlins division rivals the New York Mets have a free-spending owner in Steve Cohen, who can't seem to stop spending on his team. An interesting fact about it will shock you however.

It's worrying how the Miami Marlins are not spending.

It's not a surprise that the Miami Marlins are not really spending throughout the team's history. Bruce Sherman has hardly been impressing the fanbase with his spending. It's especially noticeable when you compare his work to that of rival New York Mets owner Steve Cohen.

As of last year, Steve Cohen has spent a remarkable $1.36 billion on payroll and the luxury tax. It's an insane number, but the bigger surprise is how it compares to the spending of the Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays. Are you ready for the shocking fact? Steve Cohen spent more on the Mets since 2021, than the three aforementioned teams have spent each in the last 21 years!

Since 2004, the Miami Marlins spent $1.34 billion on payrolls; the Pittsburgh Pirates spent $1.32 billion and the Tampa Bay Rays spent $1.32 billion as well. These are some crazy numbers, where it's hard to fathom just how much of a payroll disparity is being presented right in front of our eyes.

There are more concerning numbers...over the last four years, the Athletics spent $269 million on payroll and the Pittsburgh Pirates spent $271 million. The Mets actually lead the Majors in payroll for the last three seasons, which was last done by the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2014 to 2017. It's honestly pretty sad to know. It was only a short time ago when the Mets weren't spending, and now they're big spenders. The fact that the Miami Marlins aren't even close to that type of spending is just really sad. The New York Mets are in good hands in the spending department.
