The future of Tampa Bay Baseball affects the Marlins

Miami Marlins principal owner Bruce Sherman isn't very good at communicating with the fanbase. It's definitely important for him to do something to make the fanbase happier, but so far all we can do is hope that one day we'll see some sustainable winning. In the meantime, we have to settle for just being happy that the team is staying in Florida. Things are not going all too well for the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Miami Marlins may or may not be the only team in Florida.

Do you remember the days of the Florida Marlins? Specifically the days when that was the only team in Florida? From 1993 to 1997, that was the only team in Florida. In 1998, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays arrived on the scene, changed their name to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008 and immediately won a pennant. That certainly worked out better for them, than when the Florida Marlins became the Miami Marlins.

One of the biggest stories in MLB over the last few years, has been that the Tampa Bay Rays may be leaving Florida for a different city. Ever since the tragic Hurricane Milton forced the Rays to leave Tropicana Field for a Minor League ballpark for the 2025 season, it was non-stop chaos concerning the franchise's future in the Tampa area.

The Pinellas County Board of Commissioners is clashing with Rays owner Stuart Sternberg over construction costs for a potential new ballpark. Both sides have been increasingly frustrated with each other, and it seems they may have reached a point where the situation can no longer be peacefully resolved.

It's the conflict between both sides that is leading MLB to suddenly want Sternberg to sell the team. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and some MLB owners are apparently pushing Sternberg to sell the team, though it's unclear whether it's an actual possibility. It's interesting to note that there are ownership groups forming to purchase the team, and those groups are Tampa based, implying that the goal is to keep the team there after all. We'll see whether the sale will actually happen.
