The Miami Marlins bullpen is a hidden asset

We have some unpleasant news about The Fish's broadcasting situation. On a positive note, we can also start speculating about potential off-season targets. Those targets should mainly be hitters. One area that may not need as much help as it might be assumed, is the bullpen. Are you surprised? Well.. Anthony Bender, Calvin Faucher, Lake Bachar, Jesus Tinoco, Anthony Veneziano and Anthony Maldonado have more promise than some think.

The Miami Marlins have a better bullpen than most people think.

Many people have this idea that the Miami Marlins don't have a good bullpen. That's false. Let's start with Anthony Veneziano. The lefty only had a small sample size of 12 games and 13.1 innings pitched between the Kansas City Royals and The Fish in 2024. That said, he pitched to a 3.38 ERA/2.94 FIP, with 9.5 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9. This is VERY promising to say the least.

How about another Anthony? Righty Anthony Maldonado? He pitched to a 5.68 ERA in 16 games and 19.0 innings pitched in 2024. He however had a much better 3.80 FIP. He could be a decent middle reliever. How about righty Jesus Tinoco? He pitched to a 3.32 ERA/3.17 FIP, with 9.7 K/9 and 1.5 BB/9 in 32 games and 40.2 innings pitched. He had 9.3 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9. There's a reason he was closing for The Fish down the stretch.

Righty Calvin Faucher pitched to a 3.19 ERA/2.50 FIP, with 10.6 K/9 and 4.4 BB/9 in 53 games and 53.2 innings pitched. This is a very good reliever to put it mildly. Righty Lake Bachar pitched to a 3.86 ERA/4.88 FIP, with 10.6 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 in 10 games and 9.1 innings pitched. That's not very promising, but at least the strikeout rate is.

There's another Anthony on this list...righty Anthony Bender! He pitched to a 4.08 ERA in 59 games and 53.0 innings pitched. That might not sound impressive, but he also had a great 2.92 FIP. He also had 10.0 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9. There's also righty Declan Cronin, who pitched to a 4.35 ERA/2.58 FIP, with 9.2 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 56 games and 70.1 innings pitched.

You can clearly see that the Miami Marlins have a VERY promising bullpen mix. It remains to be seen if this will lead to better results next season, but the potential is certainly there.
