Miami Marlins prospect Remey Reed was just named the Midwest League’s Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the season.

The Remey Reed announcement comes hot on the heels of fellow Miami Marlins prospect Peyton Burdick being named the Midwest League Player of the Week. More on that, here. Follow Reed on Twitter at @Remey_Reed.

Reed is a 6’5″, 215 lb. right-handed starting pitcher from Frisco, Texas. An Oklahoma State University product, Reed was born on May 5th, 1995 and was selected by the Miami Marlins in the sixth round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Entry Draft, with the 173rd overall choice. Since his selection, Reed has spent a lot of time in the New York-Penn League, with the Batavia Muckdogs at the short-season-A level. In 21 appearances, including 16 starts over the past four seasons, he’s 6-4 with a 3.46 ERA and 82 K’s in 77 1/3 innings.

Since joining the LumberKings rotation after a promotion on July 10th, Reed has answered the call. He’s picked up a 4-3 record and a 3.28 ERA over nine starts, boasting a 1.20 WHIP and 43 K’s over 49 frames. Most impressive amongst Reed’s starts was his final appearance, on August 29th against the Burlington Bees. In an eventual 9-5 victory, Reed earned a victory while facing the minimum over six innings. 18 up and 18 down, with seven on strikeouts. Despite his perfect game-in-the-works, Reed was lifted in that one for Elkin Alcala. Reed had placed 52-of-78 offerings over the plate.

Next up for Reed is the start in Clinton’s game one of their best-of-three series against the Kane County Cougars, set for tomorrow night at 6:30 PM CT. If everything proceeds accordingly, look for Reed to start next season with the high-A Jupiter Hammerheads, in the Florida State League.
