The off-season is still not over and it might still affect The Fish's division rivals. It's definitely looking like a slow off-season for the Miami Marlins. This brings us to the reason for this article. Relief pitcher Tanner Scott signed a 4 year/$72 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Peter Bendix was never going to bring him back, but it's still frustrating to watch LA seemingly snag everyone.
Former Miami Marlins closer Tanner Scott will now pitch for the LA Dodgers.
Tanner Scott wasn't great for the Miami Marlins in the 2022 season. That season, Scott pitched to a 4.31 ERA/3.67 FIP, with 12.9 K/9 and 6.6 BB/9 in 67 games and 62.2 innings pitched. It wasn't that impressive of a debut with the team to be honest. He had an unimpressive 0.1 WAR. Following that up in 2023, he pitched to a 2.31 ERA/2.17 FIP, with 12.0 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 74 games and 78.0 innings pitched. He was worth 3.6 WAR. He accumulated 12 saves.
Following that up in the 2024 season, he pitched to a 1.75 ERA/2.92 FIP, with 10.5 K/9 and 4.5 BB/9 in 72 games and 72.0 innings pitched. This time he accumulated 4.0 WAR between the Miami Marlins and the San Diego Padres. He accumulated 22 saves between the two teams.
I worry about Scott's control, as that's really has been his biggest problem throughout his career. I wonder if the Dodgers really made that smart of a move, as despite his strikeout rate, there's not that much to offer otherwise. I'm concerned that they made a costly mistake signing him. Of course, that's assuming we should actually care about the Dodgers. Speaking as a Miami Marlins fan, it definitely stings to see other teams making signings that The Fish can't.
I wouldn't be very surprised if Tanner Scott struggles going forward, and if the Los Angeles Dodgers end up regretting signing him. The Miami Marlins have a better bullpen than expected and will probably not miss Scott, as much as one might expect the team to. Let's see if The Fish will finally make some signings in the near future.
