The Trade Deadline is fast approaching and we're waiting to see who will be traded. There are some very likely options, there are also others. A recent article by MLBTR took an interesting look at who is involved. Was 1B Josh Bell on the list? was closer Tanner Scott? CF Jazz Chisholm Jr.? Let's look into it and see what they say...
The Miami Marlins are expected to trade multiple players at the Trade Deadline.
The MLBTR article actually list CP Tanner Scott as #4 on their list! They point out that he's a free agent after the season, playing on a $5.7 million salary. They don't believe him to be as good as his 1.38 ERA, or presumably his 2.7 WAR are and that's a fair point. He does also have a 3.40 FIP. That's not that bad though and he still has his elite 9.9 K/9 rate, though it's down from his 11.9 career mark and his 12.0 2023 mark. He also does have an alarming 5.3 BB/9 rate. He's definitely a lock to be traded though.
I was surprised to see CF Jazz Chisholm Jr. at #5 on the list though. They're not very high on him and point to his struggles against lefty pitchers and his injury history. I'm surprised that they have him this high, as recent reports indicate that he's unlikely to be moved. The list is supposed to include the most likely to be traded players, which makes it odd for them to then include Jazz on the list. I don't see him getting traded barring a major trade offer, which I'm not sure is out there for him. He still needs to prove his health.
SP Trevor Rogers is at #28 and I see him as more likely to be traded than Jazz. Rogers is a solid mid-rotation arm (based on the last month's 3.58 ERA) and has both upside and age (26) on his side. 1B Josh Bell is #41 on the list. The free agent to be is on a $16.5 million salary this season and has a -1.4 WAR, with a .227/.288/.348 batting line. The Miami Marlins will have to eat most of his salary to get anything back.
