It's old news that the Miami Marlins need a new manager, it did however lead to some bizarre rumors. As Peter Bendix is looking for a new manager, there's some news on the old one. As we now know, Skip Schumaker has a new team as he chose not to continue managing The Fish after this past season.

Former Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker has a new team.

I was pretty sad to see Skip Schumaker leave the Miami Marlins. He didn't have to do it at all. Bendix has actually offered him an extension and wanted to keep him on board. It seems that the reason why Skip chose to leave had to do with the way that Kim Ng, was replaced by Bendix in the first place.

Kim Ng leaving The Fish was a surprise, though as it turned out it was her dismantling of the Minor League system and her lack of making good moves that led to her dismissal. Many supporters point to the team making the playoffs during her time with the Marlins, however it wa sa bit flukey and required bad moves along the way. It was the roster that she built that lost 100 games in the 2024 season.

I can't blame Skip Schumaker for being loyal. Since Kim Ng hired him, he felt that he couldn't continue managing the team out of deference to her. I do feel that it's unfair to the players and the fans, as leaving the team is also technically giving up on all of those people as well. It doesn't seem that management had an issue with him, so why not stay for the players and fans?

Skip Schumaker did win the 2023 National League Manager of the Year award after all. Ultimately, Skip is not even a manager in the Major Leagues anymore. He will now work as a senior advisor for the Texas Rangers. It's a step down from his previous role and I don't really understand this. I guess he just really didn't want to be on the Miami Marlins anymore.
